Ruben Amorim Aims to Rebuild United’s Identity and Drive

Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that while the club is “massive,” they are currently not performing at the level of a top team. Since replacing Erik ten Hag on November 11, Amorim’s side has improved but their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday, combined with results elsewhere left them in 13th place in the Premier League. Amorim reflecting on the loss, admitted that United were second best in the match which he described as a reality check.

“We are a massive club but we are not a massive team,” he said, emphasizing the need for improvement. Despite this, Amorim maintained that the club should not lower its ambitions, acknowledging United’s storied history and high expectations. “We’re not one of the best teams in the league but in our past, our club is maybe the best one in the league,” he added, focusing on the small details that can lead to progress.

Amorim also stressed the importance of hard work and effort. In a period of heavy fixtures—11 games in 37 days—he noted the challenge of building fitness but emphasized that success would require relentless commitment from the players. “If we want to win the Premier League, we have to run like mad dogs,” he stated.
