Son Heung-min scored twice to lead Tottenham to their first Premier League win of the season with a dominant performance against a lackluster Everton. Spurs came out strong, with Dejan Kulusevski setting up Yves Bissouma, who struck the underside of the crossbar to give Tottenham an early lead. Shortly after, Everton’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford hesitated on the ball, allowing Son to steal it and score into an open net.

Cristian Romero added a third goal with a powerful header from a James Maddison corner after outmuscling Everton defenders James Tarkowski and Michael Keane. Son sealed the victory with a low finish through Pickford’s legs following a driving run by Micky van de Ven. Despite Son’s brace, the match also focused on Bissouma. Recently in trouble for posting a video of himself inhaling laughing gas, the Mali midfielder received a one-match club ban.

Manager Ange Postecoglou also issued a stern warning to him. However with Rodrigo Bentancur injured, Postecoglou included Bissouma in the lineup and he responded with a disciplined performance, scoring his first goal for Tottenham in his 52nd Premier League appearance. His goal celebration suggested a plea for forgiveness and renewed focus, reflecting Postecoglou’s smart man-management.

Everton’s loss raises early concerns of another tough season. Sean Dyche, now wearing a tracksuit instead of his usual suit, hoped for a change in fortunes but his team’s poor performance especially in defense, alarmed many. Everton’s struggles in August continued as they have failed to win a top-flight game in the month for the past three seasons.

With the season already looking bleak, Everton will need to deliver a strong response against Bournemouth next Saturday to avoid further early-season disappointment.
