However, they faltered in the second half conceding three goals as Brighton took all three points.

Postecoglou lamented the team’s lack of competitiveness and the mentality that led to their downfall, saying, “It’s an unacceptable second half – we were nowhere near where we should be.” He emphasized that the players appeared to become complacent, noting, “Football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself.” Maddison, who netted his second goal of the season described the loss as “a couple of steps back.”

This came after a streak of five consecutive victories. He acknowledged Brighton’s quality but criticized Spurs for failing to handle the momentum shift after Brighton’s first goal. “We lost complete control of the game… it felt like it was attack after attack,” he said. Brighton’s victory pushed them above Spurs into sixth place with manager Fabian Hurzeler praising his team’s resilience.

He remarked, “My team deserved to win. They worked hard and focused on the things they could control.” Hurzeler noted that staying positive was crucial for his players, especially after coming back from a 2-0 deficit. Following this defeat, Tottenham Hotspur remain ninth in the Premier League with three wins, one draw and three losses from seven matches.
