Euro 2024 semi-final between England and the Netherlands in Dortmund on Wednesday, UK police reported minor injuries to five England fans following attacks by some Netherlands supporters. The incidents occurred in bars where Netherlands fans allegedly targeted England supporters and attempted to steal flags. While most Netherlands fans were described as peaceful, UK police identified certain groups as posing a risk.

British officers were in Dortmund collaborating with local police for the match, which England ultimately won 2-1. Social media footage depicted a scene where fans, including one in a Dutch football shirt, appeared to hurl chairs outside a bar. The altercation escalated with objects thrown, causing disturbance and damage, including to the bar’s television.

Leo, a bar employee, recounted trying to intervene initially but was overwhelmed as the situation intensified. He expressed dismay over the disruption, which prevented the bar from showing the game. In response to the incidents, the UK Football Policing Unit acknowledged reports of disorder involving Dutch fans targeting English fans and attempting thefts of flags. They also noted the presence of both peaceful fans and risk groups from the Netherlands at the event.

According to the Dutch Football Association, approximately 110,000 Netherlands fans traveled to Dortmund, outnumbering the 40,000 England supporters. Despite the off-field incidents, England secured a dramatic victory with Ollie Watkins scoring a last-minute winner.

After winning the Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands in Dortmund, England will now meet Spain in the final in Berlin on Sunday. The victory sets the stage for an exciting showdown as both teams vie for the championship title.
