Kylian Mbappe Scores First Euros Goal

Kylian Mbappe, wearing a mask, scored his first-ever goal in the Euros, but France settled for a draw against already-eliminated Poland, securing second place in Group D. France needed a win to clinch the top spot but Robert Lewandowski’s 79th-minute penalty canceled out Mbappe’s spot-kick in the second half.

Managed by Ralf Rangnick, Austria displayed an impressive performance, defeating the Netherlands 3-2 to claim the top spot in the group. Meanwhile, the Dutch finished third. France now awaits the runner-up of Group E, placing them in the same half of the draw as Portugal, Spain and Germany.

Kylian Mbappe returned to the starting lineup with a protective mask after a broken nose and ended his wait for a first Euros goal with the opening strike. He converted a penalty after Poland’s Jakub Kiwior fouled Ousmane Dembele in the box.

However, France lost momentum and Dayot Upamecano’s clumsy challenge allowed Lewandowski to equalize from the penalty spot. Although goalkeeper Mike Maignan initially saved the penalty, it had to be retaken due to encroachment, and Lewandowski scored on the second attempt.

Despite dominating possession with 58% and registering 19 shots, France struggled to create clear chances for victory. Lukasz Skorupski’s solid performance in goal for Poland added to their frustration, leaving France with just two goals – one an own goal – in three group matches.

France’s hopes now largely rest on Mbappe, who is closing in on Michel Platini’s French record of 14 goals in major tournaments. However, they need more attacking support if they are to advance further.
