Spain Overcomes Early Scare to Beat Georgia 4-1

Spain set up a thrilling quarter-final clash with Euro 2024 hosts Germany after overcoming an early scare to beat Georgia. Despite intense early pressure, Georgia took a surprise lead when Spain defender Robin le Normand accidentally scored an own goal from Otar Kakabadze’s cross. This goal fueled Georgia’s confidence, but Spain eventually equalized through Rodri’s precise shot.

Spain’s relentless attack continued, with Fabian Ruiz heading in a cross from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal to make it 2-1. Georgia fought back, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia narrowly missing a spectacular chip from halfway. However, Spain’s dominance in possession paid off as Nico Williams and Dani Olmo added two more goals, sealing a 4-1 victory.

Spain’s flawless group stage performance had established them as tournament favorites, and their second-half display against Georgia only solidified this status. Yamal and Williams, both delivering exciting performances, celebrated Spain’s third goal with a dance. Substitute Olmo also impressed, scoring in his second consecutive match.

Despite the loss, Georgia’s debut in a major tournament earned them respect. Manager Willy Sagnol encouraged his team to play fearlessly, and they did, displaying skill and determination. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili kept Georgia in the game for over 50 minutes, while Kvaratskhelia provided attacking flair.

Spain’s manager Luis de la Fuente praised his team’s creativity and resilience. The upcoming match against Germany will be their toughest challenge yet, but Spain’s impressive form maintains their status as favorites. Meanwhile, Georgia’s supporters celebrated their team’s remarkable journey, even as it ended against elite opposition.
