Marc Guiu Shines with Hat-Trick in Chelsea’s 5-1 Triumph

Marc Guiu delivered a sensational first-half hat-trick as Chelsea triumphed 5-1 over Shamrock Rovers to secure top spot in their Conference League group with a perfect six wins. Enzo Maresca’s youthful side, already assured of a last-16 berth, showcased their dominance while denying Rovers automatic progression to the knockout stage. The 18-year-old striker opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a mix-up between Darragh Burns and goalkeeper Leon Pohls.

Rovers responded through Markus Poom’s deflected strike, briefly reigniting hopes among their 3,000 traveling fans. However, Guiu quickly restored Chelsea’s lead by punishing Daniel Cleary’s under-hit back pass. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall extended the lead with a clinical finish before Guiu completed his treble with a header in first-half stoppage time. Marc Cucurella added a fifth after the break, his precise low shot finding the inside of the post.

Despite easing off in the second half, Chelsea continued to threaten with Joao Felix and Tyrique George both coming close. At the other end, goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen denied Shamrock’s Johnny Kenny and Graham Burke ensuring the Blues finished their league phase in style. Shamrock Rovers while falling short at Stamford Bridge, performed admirably throughout the group stage. Their attacking intent, particularly through Kenny, provided moments of concern for Chelsea but defensive lapses proved costly.

They now advance to the knockout phase play-offs, their European journey far from over. Chelsea’s commanding performance led by the breakout star Marc Guiu, highlighted their depth and attacking prowess, positioning them as strong contenders for the competition’s latter stages. Meanwhile, Rovers leave the group stage with valuable experience and pride intact, setting their sights on the next challenge.
