Son Heung-min Shines as Spurs Beat Hoffenheim 3-2

Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur secured a vital 3-2 Europa League win against Hoffenheim, strengthening their bid for automatic qualification to the knockout stage. After a tough domestic season with a 15th-place Premier League finish after a loss to Everton, the victory came as a much-needed boost for Spurs. The win moved them up to fourth in their Europa League group, although they finished sixth after other results later in the evening.
Tottenham started strong with James Maddison scoring early in the 4th minute following a great pass from Pedro Porro. Son doubled the lead midway through the first half when his shot, deflected by Pavel Kaderabek, looped over Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Despite Spurs’ dominance, Hoffenheim fought back in the second half. After a penalty decision was overturned, Anton Stach scored for the hosts, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
However, Son restored the two-goal cushion with a brilliant strike into the far corner. David Mokwa’s header in the 88th minute made for a tense finish but Tottenham held on for the win. With just one win from their last nine Premier League matches, Spurs are relying on cup competitions to salvage their season. They remain in the FA Cup, won the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool and now sit in a strong position to progress in the Europa League.
The injury crisis with 14 first-team players sidelined has heavily impacted their form, but this performance showed promise. Goalkeeper Brandon Austin impressed and Son Heung-min along with Maddison, led Spurs’ attack effectively. Despite some defensive fragility, the win leaves Tottenham close to securing a spot in the knockout phase with a win over Elfsborg next week.
