Everton secured their first goal of the Women’s Super League (WSL) season with a second-half equalizer, earning a draw against West Ham at home. After failing to score in their first three matches, the Toffees found the net when a cross from Melissa Lawley deflected off West Ham defender Camila Saez for an own goal. West Ham initially took the lead in the 10th minute with Anouk Denton netting her first league goal for the club after strong hold-up play from forward Viviane Asseyi.

Despite the promising start, both teams remain winless in the WSL this season having collected just two points from their four matches. Everton demonstrated better overall performance during the match, yet their finishing let them down a recurring issue for manager Brian Sorensen’s side this season. Following their equalizer, Everton pushed hard for a winner with Megan Finnigan and Katja Snoeijs both seeing their shots cleared off the line in stoppage time.

Honoka Hayashi also came close with a sliding attempt at the back post but poked the ball just wide. This draw ended Everton’s goal drought as they became the first team since Reading in 2021 to start a season without scoring in their opening three fixtures having previously failed to find the back of the net against Brighton, Manchester United and Arsenal.

However, the Toffees have not celebrated a home victory in the WSL since February 18 when they secured a 2-0 win against West Ham—a result they couldn’t replicate this time. With both teams still seeking their first wins, the match highlighted ongoing struggles in finishing for Everton as they continue their search for form.
