Fifpro Women’s World XI 2024: England Leads with Five Selections
Fifpro Women’s World XI team for 2024 includes five England players. Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze earned her seventh selection, matching the record for most appearances in the team which France’s Wendie Renard previously set. Additionally, fellow Lionesses selected include defender Alex Greenwood, goalkeeper Mary Earps, midfielder Keira Walsh and forward Lauren James.
These players received recognition from their fellow professionals.B razilian football icon Marta returned to the team for the first time since 2021 while Zambia’s Barbra Banda, the 2024 BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year, became the first African player to join the prestigious lineup. Banda, who plays for Orlando Pride in the NWSL, marked a historic inclusion.
Furthermore, the Fifpro Women’s World XI also includes Spanish stars Olga Carmona, Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí, who claimed the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year in October. Colombian forward Linda Caicedo rounds out the 2024 lineup.
The Fifpro World XI stands out because professional footballers exclusively vote for it. A record-breaking 7,000 women’s football players participated in the vote, making it one of the most esteemed awards in women’s football. This award recognizes the best players based on peer recognition and respect, reflecting the high regard these athletes hold in their profession.
