Celtic overcame a challenging match against Championship club Falkirk coming from behind twice to secure a 3-2 victory and advance to the Scottish League Cup semi-finals where they will face Aberdeen. Falkirk confident from previous cup wins against top-flight teams took the lead with goals from Ross MacIver and Finn Yeats sandwiching a volley from Paulo Bernardo.
Celtic struggled in the first half, displaying a disjointed performance with eight changes made by manager Brendan Rodgers. The defense faltered allowing Falkirk’s Alfredo Agyeman to exploit gaps leading to their two goals. In response, Rodgers made a quadruple substitution at the hour mark bringing in players like Nicolas Kuhn which revitalized the team.
Kuhn assisted Adam Idah’s equalizer before Idah netted again shortly after showcasing a strong performance. Kuhn also scored twice, including a superb finish from outside the box sealing the win. Despite being outplayed for parts of the match, Celtic’s quality ultimately shone through. Falkirk, despite their loss, demonstrated their potential pressing Celtic effectively and creating scoring opportunities.
MacIver’s performance was particularly notable before his injury and Agyeman remained a constant threat. Manager John McGlynn expressed pride in his team’s efforts emphasizing the positives and their aspirations for promotion. Celtic’s victory means they will head to Hampden Park with Rodgers acknowledging the risks of his squad changes but pleased with their late-game resilience.
Looking ahead, he anticipates a competitive match against Aberdeen while McGlynn aims to inspire his players for future challenges in their pursuit of promotion.
