Marcus Rashford Regains Form Under Ten Hag’s Guidance
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is regaining his top form after taking control of his career, according to manager Erik ten Hag. Following a standout season where he scored a personal best of 30 goals, Rashford’s performance dipped last year as he netted only eight goals and lost his spot on Gareth Southgate’s European Championship squad.
His troubles included Ten Hag dropping him for an FA Cup match due to disciplinary issues from an unauthorized trip to Belfast. Ten Hag believes Rashford is on the right path, stating, “He always knew, and every player knows, when your lifestyle is not right, you can’t perform.” He emphasized that a disciplined life away from training directly impacts a player’s performance.
Recently, Marcus Rashford showcased his resurgence by scoring twice in the EFL Cup against Barnsley, already matching his total from the previous season by the end of December. The addition of legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to Ten Hag’s coaching staff has contributed to Rashford’s improvement. However, Ten Hag stresses that Rashford ultimately bears the responsibility for his own success.
“In this club, you definitely need some resilience. No football career is only up; you always go down,” Ten Hag explained. He believes Rashford has taken charge of his situation and is on the mend. Rashford’s absence from England’s recent Nations League squad under interim manager Lee Carsley raised concerns but Ten Hag remains optimistic about Rashford’s international future.
He noted, “I think he will always be an option for every manager.” With his 60 caps for England, Rashford is poised to return to the international scene soon if he maintains his professionalism and form.
