Alex Moreno Joins Nottingham Forest on Season-Long Loan

Alex Moreno has joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Aston Villa for the rest of the season with an option to make the deal permanent. The 31-year-old Spaniard had fallen behind new arrivals Ian Maatsen and Lucas Digne in Villa Park’s pecking order. Moreno originally joined Aston Villa from Real Betis in January 2023 for £13.2 million, marking Unai Emery’s first signing and was previously linked with Forest.

Last season, Moreno made 21 Premier League appearances as Villa secured a fourth-place finish, earning a spot in the Champions League. His experience in both La Liga and the Premier League makes him a valuable addition to Forest. Nottingham Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson expressed enthusiasm about Moreno’s arrival, highlighting his significant experience and quality.

In contrast, Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall appears set to leave the club. Burnley, currently in the Championship is in advanced talks to sign the 27-year-old. The potential departure of Worrall could impact Forest’s defensive lineup as they continue to adjust their squad for the season. Moreno’s loan move strengthens Forest’s squad, offering them an experienced option at left-back.

The potential permanent transfer of Alex Moreno highlights Nottingham Forest’s continued dedication to strengthening their squad. By securing a key player on loan with an option to buy, Forest demonstrates a strategic approach to building a more competitive team for the future.
