Andrés Iniesta, Spain’s World Cup-winning legend has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40. Widely celebrated as one of the greatest players in history, Iniesta formed iconic midfield partnerships with Xavi Hernandez and Sergio Busquets for both Spain and Barcelona. Over his international career, he earned 131 caps, scoring the decisive goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final and securing European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012.

During an emotional event in Barcelona, Iniesta reflected on his career, stating, “Being on the pitch is over,” but emphasized his enduring passion for football and plans to pursue coaching. In 2018, Iniesta joined Vissel Kobe in Japan later moving to UAE Pro League side Emirates in 2023. Off the pitch, Iniesta opened up about his struggle with depression following the death of his friend, Espanyol midfielder Dani Jarque, just before the 2010 World Cup.
