Antony, the Manchester United winger faced domestic abuse allegations that prompted a Brazilian police investigation. Although the investigation ended without charges, the case could still undergo further scrutiny from prosecutors. Antony, who has denied any wrongdoing, remains under investigation by Greater Manchester Police. In September 2023, three women accused the 24-year-old footballer of domestic abuse but he has not been arrested or charged in Brazil or the UK.

His lawyers confirmed that the Sao Paulo police investigation which ran under confidentiality, concluded without an indictment. They expressed confidence that the investigation would ultimately prove Antony’s innocence. Despite the closure of the police investigation, officials from BBC News Brasil noted that the prosecutor’s office is still reviewing the case. Prosecutors could potentially initiate an independent investigation.

Antony, who transferred to Manchester United from Ajax for £82 million in September 2022, faced accusations from his ex-partner Gabriela Cavallin and later from Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, who alleged assaults occurring in 2022. Antony denies all accusations. Greater Manchester Police became involved because one alleged incident reportedly occurred at a Manchester hotel.

Manchester United took the allegations seriously, granting Antony paid leave on September 10, 2023 while he dealt with the claims. He resumed training on September 29 after voluntarily cooperating with the police and returned to play in early October. However, his manager, Erik ten Hag mentioned in January that the situation had impacted Antony’s form.

The investigation’s closure in Brazil does not end the matter, as prosecutors may still review and act on the case, potentially leading to further developments.
