Archie Gray joined Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds United for approximately £30m, while Tottenham sent defender Joe Rodon to Leeds for around £10m. Gray committed himself to Spurs until 2030 after Leeds failed to secure promotion in their recent Championship campaign, triggering a release clause in his contract. Leeds United accepted Spurs’ offer as they sought to comply with profit and sustainability regulations after their defeat in the Championship play-off final.
Gray, an 18-year-old versatile player who can operate both in midfield and at right-back, made 52 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season. Despite Brentford initially scheduling a medical for Archie Gray, Leeds turned down their offer due to disagreements over payment structure and add-ons, which led Spurs to step in and secure the player. Gray, who could play for either England Under-21s or Scotland, is the great-nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray.
Upon Gray’s departure, Leeds United released a statement expressing their mixed feelings. They understood the fans’ disappointment but emphasized that the strategic move would strengthen their squad for future promotion attempts. Joe Rodon, the Welsh international who once played on loan at Leeds, confirmed a four-year contract with the Yorkshire club, adding to their defensive depth for the upcoming campaign. This acquisition is expected to boost Leeds’ squad and increase their chances in the upcoming season.
