Billy Gilmour Transfer Bid Declined by Brighton
Billy Gilmour received an £8 million bid from Italian side Napoli, which Brighton rejected. The offer, deemed an initial approach by Brighton suggests that Napoli plans to make a more substantial bid, believing they can secure the transfer. Gilmour, who is 23, has joined Brighton on their two-match tour of Japan. The Seagulls will face Kashima Antlers on July 24 and Tokyo Verde on July 28. This tour aims to build on the success of Kaoru Mitoma, the Japan international who has significantly impressed at the club.
Last season, Billy Gilmour appeared in 24 Premier League matches and 41 games across all competitions. Brighton acquired him for £7.5 million in 2022 and he still has two years remaining on his contract. Napoli, under former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, finished 10th in Serie A last season, following their first title win in 33 years in 2023. In other news, Brighton is close to finalizing a deal for Paraguay international Diego Gomez from Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami.
Gomez is set to participate in Paraguay’s Olympic squad later this month which means he will join Brighton only after the tournament. Reports indicate that both parties are finalizing negotiations for Diego Gomez’s transfer. They expect the transfer fee to be around $18 million (£13.9 million) with the teams working out the final details.
