Bournemouth Signs Evanilson in Record £40.2m Deal
Bournemouth has finalized the signing of Brazilian striker Evanilson from Porto in a record-breaking deal valued at £40.2 million. This transfer marks the highest fee the club has ever paid for a player. Evanilson, 24, has an impressive record, scoring 60 goals in 154 appearances for Porto over the past four years. The Cherries will initially pay £31.7 million for the striker with the possibility of an additional £8.5 million based on performance-related clauses.
This significant investment highlights Bournemouth’s ambition and commitment to strengthening their squad. Bournemouth’s chief executive, Neill Blake expressed excitement about the acquisition. He emphasized that Evanilson’s reputation as a sought-after striker aligns with the club’s goals. Blake noted Evanilson’s impressive performance last season, where he netted 25 goals, including some in the Champions League.
The club believes that his experience and potential will be crucial in achieving their future ambitions. Evanilson, who recently made his debut for Brazil, earned his first senior international cap earlier this year. He was part of Brazil’s Copa America squad, making a brief appearance in their quarter-final defeat to Uruguay. The Brazilian forward will wear the number nine shirt, previously held by Dominic Solanke.
Solanke recently transferred to Tottenham for up to £65 million. Evanilson’s arrival at Bournemouth is expected to boost the team’s attacking options and enhance their performance in the upcoming season.
