Bruno Fernandes Nears New Deal with Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United are optimistic about securing a new contract in the coming weeks. Fernandes, who signed his current deal in 2022, remains under contract until 2026. Although the club could announce the new contract before the transfer window closes on August 30, they are currently focusing on finalizing deals that need to meet the deadline.

Fernandes took over the captaincy from Harry Maguire in 2023 and has retained the trust of manager Erik ten Hag, despite facing criticism from former United captains Gary Neville and Roy Keane. However, despite his importance to the team, United did not list Fernandes among the “untouchable” players they were determined to keep this summer. The club would have considered selling Fernandes only if an irresistible offer had come in, but no such bid materialized.

Before the FA Cup final in May, Bruno Fernandes hinted at uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford, expressing a desire for his personal ambitions to align with the club’s overall vision. Despite the speculation, Fernandes continues to play a key role in United’s plans, participating in the full 90 minutes of the recent Community Shield match against Manchester City, where United lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, United are finalizing the signings of central defender Matthijs de Ligt and full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. With these additions, along with the arrivals of Leny Yoro from Lille and striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, the club’s summer spending will reach nearly £140 million.

As United work to reinforce their squad, they prioritize securing Fernandes’ future, recognizing his influential presence both on and off the pitch.
