Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the England squad for Sunday’s Nations League match against Finland and returned to Arsenal for further evaluation of a right leg injury. The 23-year-old winger sustained the injury during Thursday’s match against Greece which led to his substitution early in the second half. This season, Saka has played a key role for Arsenal contributing three goals in 10 appearances across all competitions.
The Gunners will face Bournemouth in an away match after the international break on October 19. Additionally, uncapped midfielder Curtis Jones has also withdrawn from the England squad due to personal commitments. The team included him earlier this week to bolster their midfield options. Fortunately for England, captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jack Grealish have returned to training.
Both players missed the match against Greece due to minor injuries. The 22-man squad will fly out to Helsinki on Saturday afternoon to prepare for the match against Finland set to kick off at 17:00 BST. England’s Under-21 team led by manager Lee Carsley, currently sits in second place in League B Group 2 with six points from their first three matches.
This upcoming match holds significant importance as England aims to strengthen its position in the group. The absence of Bukayo Saka and Curtis Jones could impact the team’s dynamics but the return of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish boosts England’s attacking options. The squad’s depth will face a test as they look to secure a vital win against Finland.
