Burnley delivered an impressive performance under new manager Scott Parker, securing a dominant 4-1 win against fellow Championship promotion contenders Luton. Recently relegated from the Premier League, both Burnley and Luton are expected to compete at the top of the table this season. However, Burnley showcased a superior level of play, especially against a weakened Luton team.

Burnley captain Josh Brownhill scored the opening goal with Wilson Odobert adding a second before halftime. Luton struggled to match Burnley’s intensity and could have faced an even larger deficit if not for two crucial saves by Belgian goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, who denied Dara O’Shea and Vitinho early in the second half. Luton briefly rallied with a goal from Tahith Chong but Dara O’Shea restored Burnley’s lead with a powerful header.

Vitinho then sealed the victory with a late goal. Parker, who has a track record of securing promotion with Fulham and Bournemouth has made an immediate impact with Burnley. His team played with confidence and directness, contrasting with the previous, more patient style under Vincent Kompany. Burnley utilized long passes and set-pieces effectively, demonstrating their threat in multiple areas.

Luton manager Rob Edwards acknowledged his team’s struggles, particularly their vulnerability to long passes and missing key players. Despite the defeat, Edwards highlighted the positive aspects of Luton’s performance and expressed hope for improvement with returning players and potential new signings. Burnley, who won the Championship with 101 points two seasons ago, look set to be strong contenders again this season.
