Caitlin Foord Fires Arsenal to 5-0 Win Over Rangers

Caitlin Foord scored four goals in Arsenal’s dominant 5-0 win over Rangers in the Women’s Champions League qualifying securing their place in the next round. Arsenal playing their first competitive match of the season at Meadow Park, quickly asserted their dominance and left Rangers, who had previously remained undefeated in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL), struggling to cope.

Foord opened the scoring with a header from debutant Mariona Caldentey’s cross and added a second goal after the break. Alessia Russo then made it 3-0 with a powerful shot and Foord completed her hat-trick with a stunning volley. Arsenal’s captain, Kim Little rounded off the scoring with a penalty and Foord scored her fourth goal just before the final whistle.

Arsenal’s manager Jonas Eidevall praised the team’s cohesive performance and hard work, expressing satisfaction with the season’s strong start. After last season’s disappointing exit from qualifying, Arsenal was determined to advance and they achieved that with ease. Despite Rangers’ impressive league form, Arsenal outclassed them with relentless play. New signing Caldentey, who joined from Barcelona showcased her talent alongside Little in midfield. Caitlin Foord stepping in for the injured Beth Mead stood out and demonstrated the team’s depth and quality. Rangers’ assistant coach Jay Bradford acknowledged the steep learning curve his team faced against one of England’s top sides.
