Celtic FC Faces Ticket Ban for Away Fans After Fireworks Fine

Celtic FC has incurred a fine of around £16,700 for lighting fireworks during their recent Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. The Scottish Premiership champions now face the risk of a one-match ban on away fans for future UEFA club matches if any further incidents occur within the next two years. UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body announced the decision, stating, “Celtic FC must pay a fine of €20,000 and will face a ban from selling tickets to its away supporters for one (1) UEFA club competition match due to the lighting of fireworks.”

Additionally, the ticket sales ban for away supporters will remain suspended for a probationary period of two years from the date of the ruling. Celtic started their campaign in the league phase strongly, achieving a convincing 5-1 victory at home against Slovan Bratislava. However, their fortunes changed dramatically in Germany where they suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

The fine and potential restrictions on away fans reflect UEFA’s efforts to maintain safety and discipline at its events. Clubs must ensure that their supporters adhere to regulations, as failure to do so can lead to significant penalties. As Celtic navigates the rest of their campaign, they need to ensure that their fans refrain from any actions that could jeopardize their standing and lead to further sanctions.

The club’s immediate focus will be on improving their performance on the pitch while also maintaining compliance with UEFA’s regulations to avoid further disciplinary actions.
