Christine Sinclair, the all-time leading scorer in international football and a Canadian soccer legend will retire in November after the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. The 41-year-old forward, who has netted an impressive 190 goals in 331 international matches, stepped away from national team duties last December but continued her career with the Portland Thorns.

Sinclair has played for the Thorns for 12 seasons and the club plans to honor her contributions when they conclude their regular season on November 1. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Sinclair expressed her gratitude to Portland, saying, “Thank you will never be enough. Soccer has been my passion since I was four years old and it has taken me on a journey I could never have imagined.”

She also highlighted the privilege of representing the vibrant city she will always consider home. Throughout her career, Sinclair has made significant contributions to both her club and the Canadian national team. She played a pivotal role in helping the Thorns secure the inaugural NWSL championship in 2013 followed by additional titles in 2017 and 2022.

Internationally, she represented Canada in six World Cups and achieved Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Sinclair is one of only two players to score in five Women’s World Cups, alongside Brazilian star Marta. Her remarkable achievements and dedication to the sport have solidified her legacy as one of the greatest soccer players in history.

As she prepares to conclude her illustrious career, Christine Sinclair leaves behind a lasting impact on the game, inspiring future generations of athletes.
