Conmebol has launched an investigation into an “unacceptable” incident that saw Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez in a confrontation with Colombia fans at the Copa America in the United States. This incident occurred after Colombia secured a 1-0 victory in Wednesday’s semi-final in Charlotte, North Carolina. Nunez found himself clashing with spectators in a part of the stadium where many Uruguay players’ families were sitting. In response to the incident, Conmebol, the governing body of South American football, issued a statement where they condemned the incident, characterizing it as a transformation of passion into violence.

They stressed their dedication to upholding the integrity of the Copa America and issued a warning against any actions that might tarnish the football tournament’s festivities. Conmebol declared their plan to investigate the sequence of events leading to the altercation thoroughly. This disorder broke out following Colombia’s victory, which paved the way for their final match against Argentina on Sunday.

Jose Maria Gimenez, the captain of Uruguay, pointed out the absence of police during the incident and blamed the disturbance on a handful of people who were drunk and couldn’t control their actions.
