Craig Shakespeare, Former Leicester City Manager, Dies at 60

Craig Shakespeare, former Leicester City manager has passed away at the age of 60 as confirmed by his family. Shakespeare, who had been receiving treatment for cancer since October 2023, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. His family expressed deep grief and requested privacy during this challenging time, acknowledging the heartfelt support and well-wishes they received over recent months.

Shakespeare’s football career spanned several notable roles. He served as Claudio Ranieri’s assistant during Leicester City’s remarkable Premier League title win in the 2015-16 season. After Ranieri’s departure, Shakespeare took over as Leicester’s manager in February 2017 securing a permanent role later that year. However, he was dismissed in October 2017.

Shakespeare’s most recent role was as Leicester’s assistant under Dean Smith in April 2023 but he left following the team’s relegation from the Premier League. Beyond Leicester, Shakespeare worked with various clubs including West Brom, Hull, Everton, Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich. He also had a stint as England’s assistant coach in 2016 during Sam Allardyce’s brief tenure.

Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson paid tribute to Craig Shakespeare describing him as a talented, emotionally understanding and humorously charming friend. The England national team and Leicester City also honored Shakespeare, acknowledging his significant contributions and the enduring impact of his passion and spirit on the clubs and individuals he worked with.

Shakespeare’s legacy remains strong, marked by his warmth, kindness and the positive influence he had on those around him.
