David Beckham has paid tribute to Sven-Goran Eriksson, calling him a “true gentleman” and expressing gratitude for being named England captain under his management. Beckham, who captained England in 57 of Eriksson’s 59 matches, shared his appreciation on social media, accompanied by a video of their recent meeting. David Beckham reflected on their emotional farewell, saying, “We laughed, we cried, and we knew we were saying goodbye.”

He remembered Eriksson’s comforting words, “It will be OK,” as a poignant final message. Wayne Rooney, who made his England debut under Eriksson, described him as a “special man” and thanked him for his guidance. Current England captain Harry Kane acknowledged Eriksson’s respect and popularity among players expressing condolences to Eriksson’s family.

Other members of England’s ‘Golden Generation,’ including Peter Crouch, John Terry and Frank Lampard also praised Eriksson. Crouch appreciated Eriksson for giving him his England debut while Terry and Lampard highlighted his exceptional management skills and personal support. Micah Richards, who played under Eriksson at Manchester City praised his man-management skills.

Joe Hart also a former Manchester City player, admired Eriksson’s caring nature and influence. Kasper Schmeichel, who debuted in the Premier League under Eriksson and later worked with him at Notts County and Leicester expressed deep gratitude for Eriksson’s belief in him and his significant role in his career. Simone Inzaghi, who won Serie A with Eriksson at Lazio, described his passing as a “great pain.”

He also commended Eriksson’s inspirational impact. Inzaghi noted that Eriksson’s calm demeanor and respect for others made him a role model and a source of inspiration even in his final days.
