Dominic Solanke Shines for Spurs, Reclaims England Spot

Dominic Solanke’s call-up to the England squad comes as a result of being in the right place at the right time especially for interim manager Lee Carsley, who scouted the Tottenham striker during a recent match at Old Trafford. Solanke’s impressive development at Bournemouth, culminating in a £65 million summer transfer to Spurs has earned him his first England selection since a brief appearance against Brazil in 2017.

Solanke was once considered a promising talent having scored in the final of the 2014 Under-17 European Championship. However, his career faced challenges after moving from Chelsea to Liverpool where he struggled to secure playing time behind stars like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. His transfer to Bournemouth in January 2019 marked a turning point, as he scored 77 goals in 216 appearances including an impressive 21 goals last season.

At Spurs, Solanke has the opportunity to shine on a bigger stage and his standout performance in a recent 3-0 victory over Manchester United solidified his place in the England squad. Not only did he score the third goal but he also showcased his all-around skills, running 12 kilometers and making 24 sprints during the match. His ability to combine tireless work with offensive potency made him a vital figure for Spurs.

With Ivan Toney’s recent decision to pursue a career in the Saudi Pro League, Dominic Solanke has stepped into the void, reinforcing his importance for England. Carsley familiar with Solanke’s talent from their time in the junior ranks, praised his character and ability, making his inclusion for upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland a well-deserved recognition of his hard work and persistence.
