Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea’s midfielder faces a six-month driving ban after two motoring offences in west Wales. Authorities found the Argentine international guilty of failing to identify the driver of his Porsche Cayenne which allegedly ran a red light in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire in November 2023 and later exceeded the speed limit in Swansea the following month.
Although no evidence proved Fernandez was the driver on either occasion, the court heard he ignored requests for information from Dyfed-Powys Police and South Wales Police. Due to his failure to provide the driver’s identity, the court found him guilty. The 23-year-old footballer missed the hearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court after playing for Argentina in Colombia.
He already had nine penalty points on his driving licence from earlier speeding offences. The court added six points for each of the latest violations which triggered an automatic ban. In addition to the driving suspension, the court ordered Fernandez to pay £2,000 in fines, £210 in costs and an £800 surcharge, totaling £3,020 which he must settle by October 9.
Enzo Fernandez a key player for Chelsea joined the club in 2023 for a British record transfer fee of £107 million after helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Despite his success on the pitch, this legal issue has led to significant consequences off it including the driving ban for failing to cooperate with police inquiries about the offences.
