Everton are actively pursuing a season-long loan deal for midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Premier League champions Manchester City. Phillips, who moved to City from Leeds United for £45 million in 2022, has struggled to make an impact and spent the latter part of last season on loan at West Ham. Despite being a key player in the England squad that reached the Euro 2020 final, the 28-year-old has recently fallen out of favor with manager Gareth Southgate and missed the squad for this summer’s tournament.
In addition to targeting Phillips, Everton are negotiating to re-sign winger Jack Harrison from Leeds United on another loan deal. Harrison, 27, had a productive spell with the Toffees last season, playing in 35 matches and scoring four goals. His return would strengthen Everton’s attacking options for the upcoming season. Acknowledging the club’s financial constraints, Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell has stated that player sales are inevitable this summer.
He emphasized that the club will focus on securing new additions primarily through loan deals to navigate their economic challenges while strengthening the team. These potential signings reflect Everton’s proactive strategy to enhance their squad depth and competitiveness without significant financial outlay, as they aim to improve their standings in the Premier League.
