Federico Chiesa has joined Liverpool from Juventus for £10 million with a potential additional £2.5 million based on team performance. Chiesa, 26 has signed a four-year contract, marking Arne Slot’s first signing since he took over as Liverpool manager. Chiesa, a key player in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory over England expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, stating that he immediately agreed to the move when contacted by Richard Hughes and the club’s coach.

He praised Liverpool’s storied history and the passion of its fans. Chiesa impressed during his debut season with Juventus, earning a spot in Serie A’s team of the year. However, his form declined after suffering a significant knee injury in January 2022 which required surgery. Despite this setback, he scored 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season.

Juventus’ new manager, Thiago Motta did not include Federico Chiesa in his first two matchday squads this season and with Chiesa’s contract set to expire next summer, Liverpool saw an opportunity to sign him. In addition to Chiesa, Liverpool have agreed to sign Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal worth up to £29 million.

However, Mamardashvili will join Liverpool only next season. Slot had previously stated that he would be surprised if Liverpool did not make any summer signings, emphasizing the high standards required to join the squad.
