Greg Taylor, Celtic defender will miss Scotland’s upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Portugal due to a calf injury. The 26-year-old left-back was sidelined during Celtic’s win against Ross County on Sunday after sustaining the injury in the midweek Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund. With 14 caps for Scotland, Taylor also withdrew from the squad for the initial defeats to Poland and Portugal earlier in this campaign.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers provided an update on Greg Taylor’s condition, saying, “We will just have to wait and see. We hope he’ll be back, if not for Aberdeen on October 19, then not long after that.” Taylor’s absence adds to Scotland’s injury woes, as head coach Steve Clarke is already missing 10 players. Concerns have arisen regarding goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who left the pitch at halftime during Norwich City’s match against Hull City.
He suffered a heavy blow to the ribs, raising doubts about his availability. Among the unavailable players is vice-captain John McGinn while Nicky Devlin, Liam Lindsay and Andy Irving have received call-ups for the first time. As Scotland prepares for their match in Zagreb on Saturday, they will then host Portugal three days later. Currently, Portugal leads Group A1 with six points while Croatia and Poland each have three.
In contrast, Scotland has yet to score any points in the group and faces significant challenges in turning their campaign around. The team will look to rally despite the injury setbacks as they aim for crucial points in their upcoming fixtures.
