Harry Kane Unfit for Greece Match

Harry Kane will not be fit to start England’s Nations League match against Greece at Wembley, interim manager Lee Carsley announced and Jack Grealish is also a doubt. Both teams sit on six points in Group B2 after winning their previous matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland last month. Kane, England’s record goalscorer and captain, sustained a minor injury during Bayern Munich’s last game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Carsley stated, “Harry Kane is nursing an injury—a small knock, something we won’t take a chance with.” In Kane’s absence, Manchester City defender John Stones will captain the team at Wembley. Carsley praised Stones, calling it a “brilliant achievement” that he deserves. Stones expressed his excitement about the captaincy, saying, “It’s definitely everything that I could have dreamed of as a kid.

For my family to see me walk out as England captain is a special moment.” Meanwhile, Carsley revealed that Grealish “picked up a slight knock” on Tuesday and said they would assess his fitness later, emphasizing that they wouldn’t take risks with any players. On Tuesday, Carsley ruled out Morgan Gibbs-White, Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo replacing them with Curtis Jones and Tino Livramento.

Regarding Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, Carsley acknowledged his recent recognition as England’s player of the season despite not starting a competitive game. He noted the importance of having players perform as they do at their clubs and mentioned Palmer’s good relationship with Noni Madueke.

Greece coach Ivan Jovanovic commented on the changes in England’s style since Carsley took over from Gareth Southgate, noting a shift toward a more possession-based approach with greater creative freedom for players. Jovanovic views the match as an opportunity to measure Greece against one of the best teams in the world.
