Iliman Ndiaye made an impressive full debut for Everton, scoring in their 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers. Ndiaye, who joined Everton from Marseille for £15 million had appeared as a substitute in the team’s Premier League losses to Brighton and Tottenham. On his first start, the Senegal international netted Everton’s second goal in the 74th minute.
After receiving the ball 35 yards from goal, Ndiaye showcased his skill by maneuvering around defender Joseph Olowu and finishing calmly. Everton’s manager, Sean Dyche made six changes to the lineup including giving full debuts to Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien. Despite the rotated squad, Everton struggled to break down Doncaster until the 53rd minute.
Dwight McNeil scored the opener with a shot from Tim Iroegbunam deflecting off his shin into the net. In the first half, Iliman Ndiaye created Everton’s best chance when his strength allowed James Garner a shot that got blocked. He also provided a superb cross in the second half which striker Beto failed to convert. Beto eventually scored Everton’s second goal in the 84th minute securing the win and boosting morale at Goodison Park.
League Two side Doncaster Rovers performed commendably with their best opportunity falling to Jack Senior whose shot Jordan Pickford saved. Dyche, whose team currently sits at the bottom of the Premier League table with no goals scored and seven conceded from their opening matches, described the win as a “mini step forward.” He emphasized the importance of all players not just the new signings, in evolving and meeting future challenges.
