John Textor is making progress in his bid to buy Everton, but the club says it still needs to finalize the deal. On August 15, BBC Sport reported that Textor, a co-owner of Crystal Palace has secured exclusive rights to negotiate purchasing Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in Everton. However, Textor must first sell his 45% share in Palace as Premier League rules prevent individuals from owning stakes in more than one club.

In a recent Sky Sports interview, John Textor compared owning Everton to being asked to become President of the United States. He mentioned that despite receiving two strong offers for his Palace stake and having a deadline of November 30 to complete the Everton deal, he recognizes the situation remains fluid. Textor acknowledged that someone could potentially outbid him at any time and that he would not pressure Moshiri into a bad deal.

Everton’s interim CEO, Colin Chong responded to Textor’s comments by confirming that discussions with Textor are positive but highlighting that the transaction still requires more work. Chong noted that Textor’s statements represent his personal view and emphasized that the club remains focused on supporting manager Sean Dyche and preparing for their upcoming match.

Everton’s manager Sean Dyche, whose team sits at the bottom of the Premier League table with no points from their first three games stated he isn’t concerned with the ownership situation. Dyche said that club executives handle such matters and expressed that any prospective owner would need to build a relationship with him if the deal proceeds. Everton will face Aston Villa on Saturday seeking to turn their season around.
