Jonny Evans Potential Contract Extension
Jonny Evans, the 36-year-old veteran, rejoined Manchester United last summer from Leicester City. The club is currently discussing the possibility of extending his tenure. His comeback to Manchester United, eight years post-departure, marked a pivotal chapter in his football journey. The reunion symbolized a remarkable comeback for the seasoned defender, highlighting his enduring connection with the club. Initially, Evans started training with the club during pre-season to maintain his fitness levels. However, Erik ten Hag offered him a one-year deal after being impressed by his performances during this period.
Throughout the previous season, the Northern Ireland international made 30 appearances for the team. He notably made a substitute appearance during the FA Cup triumph against Manchester City at Wembley. In addition to Jonny Evans, talks are ongoing with goalkeeper Tom Heaton regarding a potential contract extension. Moreover, United have extended an offer to Omari Forson, a 19-year-old forward who made his Premier League debut in February’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolves. Forson showcased his abilities by providing the crucial assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s winning goal at Molineux.
Despite making a total of six additional appearances, Forson has yet to commit to a new contract with the club. On the other hand, Brandon Williams, Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane are set to be released on 30th June as their current deals come to an end. Williams, who spent the previous season on loan at Ipswich, has been sidelined since 29th December due to injury leading to his return to United. His last appearance for the club dates back to September 2022.
