Khadija Shaw and Grace Clinton Win PFA Awards

Khadija Shaw has won the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Women’s Player of the Year award while Grace Clinton has received the Young Player of the Year award. Shaw a Manchester City forward led the Women’s Super League (WSL) for the 2023-24 season by scoring 21 goals in 18 games. Although injuries disrupted her season, she helped City finish second in the league just missing out on the title to Chelsea.

Shaw expressed pride and gratitude, thanking her teammates and coaching staff for their support. She also acknowledged her fellow nominees, praising their talent. This award is Shaw’s first PFA honor, complementing her titles as the WSL Player of the Year and the Women’s Football Awards Player of the Year. Shaw won the PFA Women’s Player of the Year award, overcoming Manchester City teammates Yui Hasegawa and Lauren Hemp.

She also surpassed Chelsea players Erin Cuthbert, Lauren James and Niamh Charles for the top honor. Grace Clinton, a Manchester United midfielder who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, won the Young Player of the Year award. Clinton scored four goals and added four assists while earning her first England caps. Last year’s winner, Lauren James, also received a nomination after scoring 13 goals in 16 games for Chelsea.

The WSL Team of the Year, voted by players, featured a strong Manchester City presence with Khadija Shaw, Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp, Khiara Keating, Alex Greenwood and Laia Aleixandri. Chelsea’s Niamh Charles, Erin Cuthbert and Lauren James also made the XI. Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy and Tottenham’s Grace Clinton completed the team.

In the men’s categories, Manchester City’s Phil Foden won Player of the Year and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer was named Young Player of the Year.
