Kylian Mbappé, the French international and Real Madrid star has completed a takeover of Ligue 2 club Caen through his investment venture, Interconnected Ventures. Notably, Mbappé’s investment fund, Coalition Capital has acquired a majority stake in the French club, investing approximately €15 million (£12.6 million) of his personal funds. Consequently, this acquisition replaces the previous majority shareholder, American investment firm Oaktree.
Moreover, Pierre-Antoine Capton, the president of Caen’s supervisory board will continue as a minority shareholder. Capton praised Coalition Capital’s unique values and vision, describing it as a significant opportunity for Caen’s development. As Caen, who finished sixth in Ligue 2 last season, prepares to kick off their new campaign on August 17 against Paris FC, this development comes just before Mbappé’s potential La Liga debut for Real Madrid, scheduled for August 18 against Real Mallorca.
This debut follows his free transfer from PSG this summer. Since Caen was relegated from Ligue 1 in 2019, the club views this takeover as a pivotal moment in its strategic growth. The official statement from Caen emphasized that this investment aligns with their ambition to remain a prominent club in French football. Overall, Kylian Mbappé move into club ownership reflects his growing influence beyond the pitch and underscores his commitment to football’s development at multiple levels.
