Leny Yoro, the highly sought-after centre-back from French club Lille has joined Manchester United this summer in a major signing. Valued at £52 million, Yoro has signed a five-year contract with United, despite interest from top European clubs like Real Madrid. Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand played a crucial role in Yoro’s decision. Ferdinand reached out to Yoro directly via social media to welcome him to Old Trafford. Additionally, Ferdinand called Yoro two weeks before the signing to discuss the club and its storied history.

Yoro noted that Ferdinand’s insight into the club’s legacy and the importance of fighting for the badge significantly influenced his choice. During their conversation, Yoro learned about the club’s rich history and the commitment required to succeed at such a prestigious club. “He mainly spoke about the club and what it’s like,” Yoro explained. “That this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.”

Leny Yoro impressed during his debut in Manchester United’s pre-season victory over Rangers at Murrayfield. Reflecting on his playing style, Yoro pointed out similarities with Ferdinand’s approach. He emphasized the importance of reading the game and understanding opponents, skills he believes are essential in modern football. “I try really to be focused on that. After that, I’m really comfortable with the ball. I’m not afraid to play,” Yoro stated.

Yoro’s arrival marks a significant addition to United’s defense as they work to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
