Liverpool Thrash Sevilla 4-1 in Slot’s Anfield Debut

Liverpool manager Arne Slot marked his debut at Anfield with a commanding 4-1 win over Sevilla. Taking over from Jurgen Klopp, Slot saw his team extend their impressive pre-season form which included victories over Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United in the U.S. Diogo Jota opened the scoring with a left-foot volley from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pass.

Luis Diaz added two more goals before halftime, receiving assists from Jota and Dominik Szoboszlai. Sevilla’s Peque Fernandez scored a consolation goal after the break but Liverpool’s 17-year-old substitute Trey Nyoni sealed the win with a smart finish. In a separate friendly, Liverpool played a behind-closed-doors match against Las Palmas. Darwin Nunez made his first pre-season appearance since returning from Copa America with Uruguay.

Andy Robertson, also returning from injury, hit the post in a goalless draw. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino, oversaw his first match with a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan. Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella, back from Euro 2024, featured in the game where Marcus Thuram scored for Inter. Chelsea equalized in the final moments with a goal from Lesley Ugochukwu.

New signing Pedro Neto was introduced to the fans at halftime, joining the club for an initial £51.3m with potential add-ons. Arsenal wrapped up their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Lyon. Defenders William Saliba and Gabriel scored from Declan Rice corners in the first half. New signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna made his debut, replacing Oleksandr Zinchenko in the second half.

In other news, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, linked to Newcastle United and Joachim Andersen, subject to a £20m bid from Fulham, both started in a 1-1 draw against Nantes. Jean-Charles Castelletto scored for Nantes before Daichi Kamada equalized for Palace.
