Luka Modric Extends Real Madrid Stay with Contract Renewal
Luka Modric, Real Madrid’s stalwart captain, has committed to another year with the Spanish champions by signing a contract extension. Since his arrival from Tottenham in 2012, the 38-year-old midfielder has amassed an impressive collection of 26 trophies including six Champions League titles and four domestic championships. During his tenure at Real Madrid, Luka Modric has appeared in 534 matches, contributing 39 goals to the team’s success.
Despite his advancing years, he remained a key figure in the squad during the 2023-24 season, featuring in 46 games across various competitions, although starting in only 23 of them. Modric also played a pivotal role for Croatia at Euro 2024, starting in all three of their matches. However, Croatia’s journey ended prematurely as they finished third in their group and failed to advance further in the tournament.
With his contract expiring at the end of June, Modric’s decision to extend ensures that Real Madrid retains his wealth of experience. This continuity will be crucial for manager Carlo Ancelotti as he prepares for his 13th season at the helm of the Bernabeu club. In addition to securing Modric’s services, Real Madrid made headlines with the high-profile acquisition of Kylian Mbappe from Paris St-Germain.
The French striker, a significant addition to the squad, was officially unveiled on July 16th. Furthermore, Real Madrid bolstered their ranks with the signing of Brazilian teenager Endrick from Palmeiras, underscoring their ongoing commitment to strengthening the squad and maintaining their status as one of Europe’s most successful football clubs.
Looking ahead, Modric’s continued presence promises to provide leadership and stability in midfield, complementing the influx of new talent as Real Madrid aims for further domestic and international success in the upcoming season.
