Mason Greenwood is preparing to undergo a medical as he finalizes his permanent transfer from Manchester United to Marseille. Sources indicate that Greenwood has agreed to personal terms and a fee exceeding 30 million euros (£25.2 million), including add-ons. His contract will extend until 2029, with United securing a significant sell-on clause in negotiations. Despite criticism from the city mayor last week, Marseille remains committed to signing Greenwood, who is expected to join Roberto de Zerbi’s squad for the upcoming season.

Greenwood, who has not featured for United since January 2022, had serious charges against him dropped in February 2023, clearing the path for his transfer. United officials confirmed their intention to sell Greenwood during a recent meeting with the 22-year-old. The club has strengthened its squad by adding Netherlands forward Joshua Zirkzee, aiding their financial outlook amid stringent Premier League profit and sustainability regulations.

Greenwood’s move to Marseille will fill the void left by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who bid farewell to the Ligue 1 club on social media. Aubameyang, 35, announced his departure and will join Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadisiyah after stints with Arsenal and Chelsea.

This transfer marks a pivotal moment for both Mason Greenwood and Marseille, highlighting their ambitions for the upcoming campaign amidst regulatory challenges and significant player movements in European football.
