Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich in a deal worth nearly £60 million. The 25-year-old centre-back De Ligt signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, while the 26-year-old defender Mazraoui agreed to a four-year deal with the same extension option. United will pay £38.5 million for De Ligt with an additional £4.3 million in potential add-ons.

De Ligt, who previously captained Erik ten Hag’s Ajax side during their run to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals expressed his eagerness to reunite with his former manager. He credited Ten Hag with shaping his early career and emphasized his commitment to achieving success at Manchester United. Noussair Mazraoui joins United for an initial fee of £12.8 million with potential add-ons of £4.3 million.

The Moroccan defender, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax, expressed his excitement about reuniting with the manager as he enters the prime years of his career. He is expected to step in at left-back, covering for the injured Luke Shaw, who will likely return after the international break. United will host Fulham in the Premier League this Friday.

Mazraoui’s arrival followed Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to West Ham for £15 million. United brought in Matthijs De Ligt as an alternative centre-back option after Everton rejected two bids for Jarrad Branthwaite. De Ligt offers a more cost-effective and experienced solution compared to Branthwaite with Everton maintaining a £70 million valuation for the England international.
