Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Briefly Detained Before Game

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill experienced a brief detention by police before his team’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite the early morning incident, Hill reached Hard Rock Stadium and scored a touchdown in the Dolphins’ 20-17 victory. According to a Dolphins statement, police pulled Hill over for a traffic stop about a block from the stadium and briefly detained him before releasing him.

Several teammates witnessed the event and offered their support. The statement confirmed that Hill and the other players involved arrived safely at the stadium and participated in the game. ESPN aired a video showing police restraining and handcuffing Hill. After the game, Hill expressed confusion about the situation stating he did not understand why officers detained him as he remained respectful throughout the encounter.

“Wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way. Didn’t cuss. Still trying to figure it out,” Hill said. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus described the situation as “heartbreaking” and “mind-boggling,” and expressed deep concern over how officers escalated the situation to handcuffs and holding Hill on the ground. Rosenhaus promised to investigate the incident further.

In response, Miami-Dade Police Department director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that she had initiated an internal affairs investigation to review the incident thoroughly. She assigned one of the involved officers to administrative duties during the investigation. Daniels assured the public of transparency and accountability in handling the situation involving her officers.
