Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager has signed a new three-year contract, extending his stay with the Gunners until 2027. The Spaniard’s previous contract, set to expire at the end of this season, has been replaced by the new deal just ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham. Arteta expressed his excitement and pride about the new contract, emphasizing his enthusiasm for the future.
“I feel extremely proud, very excited, and am looking forward to what is coming next,” he said. Arteta, who took over as Arsenal’s manager from Unai Emery in December 2019, guided the team to an FA Cup victory, marking his first major trophy as a manager. In the past two seasons, Arsenal finished second in the Premier League, narrowly behind Manchester City.
Arteta aims to lead Arsenal to their first top-flight title since the 2003-04 season. Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke praised Arteta as a dynamic and passionate leader who deeply understands the club’s values and has elevated the team’s performance. Sporting director Edu added that the new contract provides stability and clear direction as the club strives for further success.
Speculation had linked Mikel Arteta with top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona but his new contract underscores Arsenal’s confidence in him to end their long wait for a Premier League title. BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella noted that Arteta’s extension follows a strong start to the season with Arsenal currently fourth after three games including victories over Wolves and Aston Villa.
With new signings such as Raheem Sterling and Mikel Merino, the Gunners look poised to challenge for major honors and Arteta’s new contract serves as a symbolic boost before the crucial derby against Tottenham.
