Morgan Gibbs-White along with Ezri Konsa and Kobbie Mainoo will miss England’s upcoming Nations League matches due to injuries, prompting significant changes to the squad. However, England’s medical staff has cleared captain Harry Kane to play after he sustained an injury during Bayern Munich’s recent draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Three Lions will face Greece at Wembley on Thursday and then travel to Helsinki for a match against Finland on Sunday. All players in interim manager Lee Carsley’s initial squad have reported to St George’s Park for training. Carsley confirmed he will not call up any additional players to the roster. Morgan Gibbs-White, who made his England debut last month, injured himself while attempting a shot during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
The young midfielder had made a promising start to his international career. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s Konsa picked up a hamstring injury during the goalless match against Manchester United which raises concerns about his fitness moving forward. Mainoo also injured during Manchester United’s game, left the field in the closing minutes. His absence will impact the squad as he was expected to contribute significantly in midfield.
Despite these setbacks, Kane’s return offers a boost for the team. His experience and leadership will play a crucial role as England aims to secure valuable points in the Nations League. With the matches fast approaching, the spotlight will be on how the remaining squad members adjust and perform in these key encounters.
