Moussa Diaby Joins Al-Ittihad as Aston Villa Revamps Squad
Moussa Diaby, the France winger has transferred from Aston Villa to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. The 25-year-old completed his move just one season after joining Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record fee, reportedly £51.9 million, last July. During his time at Villa Park, Moussa Diaby made 54 appearances, scored 10 goals and played a key role in helping Aston Villa finish fourth in the Premier League, which secured their place in the Champions League.
Diaby expressed his gratitude to Villa fans on social media, saying, “Villans, thank you for everything. It’s time to say goodbye.” He reflected on his time at the club with fondness, highlighting the memorable moments and the joy experienced during a successful season. As Villa prepares for the upcoming season, they are actively reshaping their squad.
Last month, they sold midfielder Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.4 million. In response, the club made several significant signings: Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joined from the Italian club while left-back Ian Maatsen arrived from Chelsea for £35 million and winger Lewis Dobbin came from Everton for approximately £9 million.
On Tuesday, Villa completed the acquisition of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana for £50 million. Additionally, the club re-signed English winger Jaden Philogene from Hull City, paying around £13.5 million for his return less than a year after his departure.
These moves reflect Villa’s ambitious plans for the new season as they look to strengthen their squad and make a mark in both domestic and European competitions.
