Moussa Diaby, Aston Villa’s winger is set to join Al-Ittihad in a deal worth approximately €60 million (£50.4 million). The 25-year-old has traveled to Saudi Arabia to undergo a medical and finalize the transfer after spending just one season at Villa Park. Diaby, who arrived at Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for a record £51.9 million last summer, made 54 appearances for the club, netting 10 goals and helping Villa secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, thus qualifying for the Champions League.
Despite his contributions, Villa manager Unai Emery has opted to sell Moussa Diaby to Al-Ittihad. This decision follows Villa’s recent acquisition of Jaden Philogene from Hull for about £13.5 million. The club believes Philogene, an academy graduate will have a significant impact upon his return. Villa’s ongoing squad reshaping also includes the sale of midfielder Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million last month.
In response, Villa has signed Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, along with left-back Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £35 million and winger Lewis Dobbin from Everton for around £9 million. Additionally, Villa completed the £50 million signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana earlier this week. With these changes, Aston Villa is actively working to strengthen its squad and prepare for the upcoming season.
