Noni Madueke reassured Chelsea fans, saying “everything is going to be fine” when Enzo Fernandez returns to the squad despite ongoing disciplinary issues related to alleged racism. Fernandez, who is expected to rejoin Chelsea on July 29, faced accusations of “uninhibited racism” from teammate Wesley Fofana. Additionally, the French Football Federation condemned a video of a song with racist lyrics sung by players after Argentina’s Copa America victory.
The song questioned the heritage of France’s black and mixed-race players. In response, Fernandez has apologized to his Chelsea teammates including six French players of African descent and publicly while the club has initiated an internal disciplinary process. Moreover, FIFA has launched an investigation into the matter. Madueke, who started in Chelsea’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Wrexham, remains optimistic, believing the team will address the issue internally.
He stated, “Enzo is going to come back and join his team again and everything is going to be fine.” Similarly, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca echoed this sentiment, declaring the situation “already clear and clarified,” with no expected issues. Furthermore, captain Reece James has offered to mediate if needed, as Chelsea continues their pre-season tour in the U.S. with upcoming matches against Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
In terms of on-field adjustments, Noni Madueke primarily a right winger emphasized the need to adapt to Maresca’s tactical approach which differs from former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s. He highlighted the importance of maintaining width and patience, waiting for opportunities to make impactful plays.
