Raphael Varane, the France defender has signed a two-year contract with Serie A side Como. The 31-year-old Varane, who became a free agent after leaving Manchester United this summer will join Como as they return to Serie A for the first time in 21 years. His arrival marks a significant addition to the Italian club’s squad. Varane, a 2018 World Cup champion, enjoyed a distinguished career at Real Madrid.
During his time there, he won three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. Following a three-year stint at Manchester United, he decided to continue his career in Italy. In addition to his club successes, Varane earned 93 caps for the French national team before retiring from international duty last year. His move to Como will reunite him with former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas was appointed Como’s head coach after the club’s promotion. Raphael Varane expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I will meet Cesc again, but this time not as an opponent. I am very happy to join Como; I really admire his playing philosophy and his passion for football.” This new chapter in Varane’s career marks an intriguing development as Como aims to establish itself in Serie A.
